About Us
The Trinity Baptist Church Urban Garden was started in 2008 to address a serious health epidemic that is present throughout this country and especially in the African-American community. Many of these health issues can be minimized with a nutritional diet plan.
Mission
The mission of the Trinity Baptist Church Urban Garden is quite simple.
Our prime objective is to grow produce and teach the community how to
grow fresh fruits and vegetables while also educating them about the
benefits they may gain from making healthy food choices.

Vision
The Trinity Baptist Church Urban Garden is known as the "flagship garden"
of Northwest Indiana. We envision that other churches or organizations
will, after seeing what we have accomplished, realize that they too can do
the same in their own community. There are a lot of vacant lots in the
greater Gary area that if transformed into gardens would help to beautify
the city while also providing fresh foods to its residents.

Goals
Gardening is exhilarating to follow from the soil to the plate. What this
means is that after harvesting your crop, you need to be mindful of how
to prepare nutritional dishes. Many of our young people today are only
familiar with fast foods and they often make unhealthy food choices. Our
goal is to offer cooking classes to address and to educate the community
on the connection between their diet choices and illnesses such as: obesity,
diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.

Accomplishments
The Trinity Baptist Church Urban Garden is proud to acknowledge that
many of the beneficiaries of the garden are senior citizens who are on a
fixed income or may be ambulatory. In addition, several schools brought
bus loads of young students, who had never seen a large garden before,
and for the first time ever they had an opportunity to get in the soil to plant
beautiful flowers and vegetables.
